A statement from the Justice Department says “Due to safety and security at the facility the department is not able to comment on the nature of the escape, however an internal investigation is ongoing as well as a review of the facility’s policies and procedures.”

Government is trying to find out how an inmate escaped custody at the West Coast Corrections Centre in Stephenville on Friday. 31-year old Tyler Bennett remains at large. RCMP believed at one point he may be hiding in the woods, and warned the public about helping him. He had been remanded into custody on charges of a number of break-ins  and thefts in the area, and was due to appear in court on Monday. A statement from the Justice Department says “Due to safety and security at the facility the department is not able to comment on the nature of the escape, however an internal investigation is ongoing as well as a review of the facility’s policies and procedures.” Bennett is five feet, eight inches tall, weighs 160 pounds, and has tattoos on his face and body.
