Justice Minister Helen Conway-Ottenheimer will go before the microphones this afternoon to provide an update on what’s being done to address issues in the provincial courts system. The Minister will hold a news event 2 p.m. in Confederation building. She plans to highlight the action being taken in collaboration with the courts to strengthen access to the justice system and ensure safer communities for all of us.
On Tuesday, Bayfm News carried a story with Burgeo-Lapoile MHA Michael King, who along with justice critic Pam Parsons, wrote to the Minister after sudden changes in court schedules, that included Stephenville and Port aux Basques. With no explanation or timeline given for the disruptions, King worries this may be the first step in eroding judicial and other services to rural Newfoundland and Labrador.
