PC leader Tony Wakeham was reelected in his district of Stephenville-Port au Port and around ten o'clock last night a sea of blue had swept the province. Wakeham kept his seat with 3,820 votes and Jeff Young of the Liberals got 1.044 votes. Liberal leader John Hogan also won his seat Windsor Lake and NDP leader Jim Dinn was reelected in St. John’s Centre.
Meanwhile, Former Mayor Jim Parsons is the newly elected MHA for Corner Brook. He defeated the PC candidate, and also a former Mayor Charles Pender with 2,200 votes compared to 1,344 for Pender. Parsons says he’s ready for the challenges that lie ahead. Pender congratulated his opponent and says it was a clean campaign.
In the Bay of Islands, long time politician and Independent candidate Eddie Joyce was declared early on in the count when the polls closed last night with 3,433 votes. The second contender was Liberal Meghan Parsons with 735 votes. Joyce says it’s always an honour and pleasure when people in the district put their trust in you.
Humber-Gros Morne has elected former Deer Lake Mayor Mike Goosney with 3.238 votes to Helen Reid of the Liberal Party with 2,093 votes. In St. George’s -Humber, a former Liberal district has gone blue by electing Hal Cormier with 2,648 votes compared to second place Liberal candidate Mark Lamswood with 2.366 votes.
