There have been at least 80 fatalities in NL due to substance use last year.

This is National Addictions Awareness Week and this year’s theme is "Anchoring Hope.” Today at the RAC, the Community Mental Health Initiative is hosting a panel discussion on addictions, treatment,  and recovery. Interagency Coordinator Peter Parsons says stereotypes still exist. He says communities can help by becoming safe spaces for open and honest conversations.

There have been at least 80 fatalities in NL due to substance use last year. Parsons says harm reduction is a practice that gives individuals a choice in their substance use so they can make informed decisions and be a part of their treatment process. He says hard reduction exists in all our lives when we use things like seat belts, studded tires, or a bike helmet.
