The Ala’suinu is tied up at dock in North Sydney after technicians discovered a problem with the ship’s lubrication system last week. The vessel was due to make its’ first crossing on June 14th. Captain Anderson Noel is the crown corporation’s Director of Fleet Operations. He says the Ala’suinu was completed in February and started a voyage across the world which took longer than they had planned partially due to geopolitical unrest. Anderson says they ran into unrelated problems during the trip and while they do expect issues with new vessels and complete what’s called a “debugging period” to detect problems. He says they expect this issue will be corrected quickly. Colin Tibbo is Marine Atlantic’s Vice President of Customer Experience. He says they are adding 13 more sailings on the Gulf for every customer with bookings. Tibbo says $200 vouchers will be given to affected customers and $100 for each child.
