“From a career in forestry, being the bug man, his partnership with Lloyd at the insectarium, and of course hooks and hackles. There's also so many cabin trips, outdoor adventures, sledding, hunting, or maybe ya just met him over a glass of rum and a cuffer. "
Corner Brook is mourning the loss of the host of a popular Cable 9 show from the nineties called “Hooks and Hackles.” Gary Holloway passed away last week at the age of 67. His obituary reads, “From a career in forestry, being the bug man, his partnership with Lloyd at the insectarium, and of course hooks and hackles. There's also so many cabin trips, outdoor adventures, sledding, hunting, or maybe ya just met him over a glass of rum and a cuffer. We would like to raise a glass and celebrate his life with you all. After all, he is the man who showed us life is about building a bigger table, not a taller fence. “
Gary Holloway and his partner Lloyd Hollett opened the doors to the NL Insectarium in 1996, a refurbished dairy barn that now houses three floors of insects from all over the world and a butterfly pavilion.
In following Gary’s wishes, cremation has taken place. He leaves to mourn, his wife: Penny, their children: Scott and Sara, and grandchildren: Rowan, and Remi. A celebration of Gary’s life will take place at The Bennett Hall on Friday, November 7th, 2025 at 3PM.
