Executive Director Mike Kearley says “at Vine Place, they’ve always believed in the power of community to change lives.”
The head of Vine Place in Corner Brook believes a new youth hub coming next year will bring a lot of services to a vulnerable population of young people aged 12-29. Choices for Youth is partnering to establish a network of nine youth focused hubs with the first one opening at Vine Place Community Centre. Executive Director Mike Kearley says “at Vine Place, they’ve always believed in the power of community to change lives.” He says this will create a safe, welcoming space where youth in Corner Brook and surrounding communities can find the support they need.
Kearley says first and foremost will be mental health services and the involvement of a family care team. They are currently working with an architect to redesign the bottom floor at the centre to better accommodate and enhance services. Staff should start in the new year and the centre is due to open sometime after April.
Kearley says this has been missing for far too long and research has shown a large percentage of youth seeking help are from outside St. John’s. The name of the new youth hub will be “Becket.”
