renfell Campus Student Union President Tyson Jesso says students have been concerned about the hike in tuition which started in 2021.
Students at Grenfell Campus are excited about a freeze on tuition, something Education Minister Paul Dinn committed to make this year. Grenfell Campus Student Union President Tyson Jesso says students have been concerned about the hike in tuition which started in 2021.
MUN President Dr. Janet Morrrison also announced a cut to the number of vice presidents from 7 down to three, a move that would save $1 million. Over the past few years the Auditor General has exposed issues of overspending and recommended action. Jesso says Memorial University is in an extremely difficult situation and a freeze on tuition isn’t enough given the fact they have a $20M deficit to make up for in their budget. One vice president position that will be cut is at Grenfell and will now be titled. “Deputy provost (Grenfell and Labrador Campuses” Jesso says he’s worried about the campus and how this will impact students. He says they regularly meet with the VP on Grenfell campus, who is available whenever needed. Gesso says cutting this position will make students feel more disconnected from their institution.
