Health and Indigenous Relations Minister Lela Evans says this represents phase one of a collaborative process grounded in respect, cultural recognition and partnership
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Corner Brook yesterday aimed at improving health and well-being outcomes for Indigenous peoples. Health and Indigenous Relations Minister Lela Evans says this represents phase one of a collaborative process grounded in respect, cultural recognition and partnership. It is between Miawpukek First Nation, Qalipu First Nation, and Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services
Evans says they’re hoping to have the Nutatsiuvut government and the Inuit nation sign on as well. She says this will be something Indigenous people can lean on when they’re dealing with barriers and failures to access timely health care. Evans says a big part of this is being able to access culturally appropriate health care. She says this MOU is the result of a legacy of failures to address past harms and reconciliation. Evans says the holistic approach of Indigenous people is about addressing the patient, as well as their family and community. The MOU signing was held at the Greenwood Hotel.
