The intent is to provide access to reliable and accurate crime statistics for every community throughout the province.
The provincial government has launched a new interactive Crime Dashboard, which provides a detailed overview of statistical crime data. The intent is to provide access to reliable and accurate crime statistics for every community throughout the province. Data will be sourced annually from Statistics Canada's police-reported crime statistics and includes data from each of the province’s 45 police detachments. This can be actual incidents of crime, crime rate, Crime Severity Index, crimes against persons or property, and Criminal Code or traffic violations. The Policing Transformation Working Group’s initiatives included a public survey which showed a request for more accessible and reliable information about crime statistics in communities. There was a strong desire from stakeholders and the public to have access to public safety and crime data from a trusted and reliable source.
