Last week, some residents of Bay St. George South gathered in protest of the stench of rotting dead salon that is being trucked into the area to be burned at a local dairy. Sharon Piccott said at the time, there are upwards of ten transport trucks passing by her home everyday and the smell is so bad, it’s nauseating. Bayfm News contacted the Department of Environment and Climate Change about it and they issued a written response, saying, “ The department is aware of reports and concerns from the Bay St. George South area regarding odour stemming from the waste treatment system, an anaerobic digester facility, at New World Dairy Inc., located in Maidstone, St. David’s.. The anaerobic digester is an approved method for disposing of waste from a salmon mass mortality. Inspections are completed by the Department of Government Modernization and Service Delivery.”
