The Staples Stuff the Backpack event will take place August 17th.
The familiar Staples commercial about back to school features happy parents shopping for school supplies to the tune of “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” In reality, it’s a worrisome time of the year for some parents. The Staples Stuff the Backpack event will take place August 17th. School supplies and backpacks collected will go to Vine Place Community Centre to help low income families. Staples Manager Wendy Norton says it’s an important fundraiser. “We’ve decided to change the name of the fundraiser this year,” she says. “Vine Place needs help with this big fundraiser.” Mike Kierley is with Vine Place. He says the cost of school supplies have increased. “Some estimates are upwards of $150 and low income families will find this hard especially if there are 3 or more children, “ he says. “Add more things like clothes and extracurricular activities and this can really take a toll on the pocket book.” All money raised from events in the parking lot on August 17th will also go to Vine Place.
