Grenfell Campus is getting funding to develop a new Strategic Tourism Program. ACOA and Rural Economic Development Minister Gudie Hutchings announced $100,000 towards the project at a news conference in Corner Brook this morning. Hutchings says the tourism industry here is huge with over 20,000 employees contributing $1.4 billion into the economy every year. The provincial government added $32,500 from the Regional Development Program. Industry Minister Andrew Parsons says the funding will position Grenfell as a leader in strategic tourism. Grenfell Vice-President Dr. Ian Sutherland says this will lead to a program that is cutting edge. Today’s announcement was held at the Fine Arts building on Grenfell Campus.
