The first phase will start June 1st for residents ages 65 and over and immunocompromised residents between the ages of 50-64.

Starting September 1st, the shingles vaccine will be available for no cost to all to those aged 50 and over. The province’s new Premier John Hogan made the announcement in the capital city. He says “Increasing access to the shingles vaccine for all residents aged 50 and over will help reduce the risk of shingles and ensure a better quality of life and improved health outcomes for seniors and older adults.” Newly minted Health Minister Krista Lynn Howell, a former nurse, says this expansion is in line with recommendations of the Health Accord. The first phase will start June 1st for residents ages 65 and over and immunocompromised residents between the ages of 50-64. This increased access will ensure high-risk populations receive protection against shingles and its related health complications, reduce hospital visits, physician consultations and pain management treatments.
