The 91-year-old was first elected in 1981, and served 6 terms, or 24 years on council, one of them as Mayor.
It’s based on her life with a family, volunteerism, and politics, and this week, former Corner Brook Mayor Priscilla Boutcher will launch her book, titled “I laughed and I cried.” It will take place from 4-6 p.m. at Coleman’s on O’Connell Drive. The 91-year-old was first elected in 1981, and served 6 terms, or 24 years on council, one of them as Mayor. Up until Linda Chaission was elected as Mayor this month, Priscilla Boutcher was the only woman to hold the office in this city. Her book is edited by Pamela Gill, who says the four year writing process became a Labour of Love. Gill was a reporter at the Western Star covering municipal news when she first met the former Mayor but says the lady was so much more and became a big influence. Boutcher’s son David was one of 84 men on the Ocean Ranger when it sank on Valentine’s Day in 1982. 22 bodies were recovered. Gill says there’s a reason they chose the title of the book. After Friday’s launch, the book” I laughed and I cried” will be available at Island Treasures and Newfoundland Emporium.
