Dr. Minnie Wasmeier, MD, PhD says the letter stated that all members of the vestry would resign and a protest was held last week against the Bishop’s firing of Dean Catherine.
A retired doctor who was the head of Western Health for many years is speaking about recent events at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Anglican church in Corner Brook. Dr. Minnie Wasmeier, MD, PhD says she was shocked to receive a letter from the vestry which accompanied her annual tax statement. The letter stated that all members of the vestry would resign and a protest was held last week against the Bishop’s firing of Dean Catherine. The vestry and members of the congregation are calling for the resignation of the Bishop. Wasmeier says she’s seeing a lot of anger and pain with some saying they feel lost. She doesn’t know the minister or the Bishop but did write a letter to the Bishop and Archdeacon. In her letter, Wasmeier stated “The charge of suspected harassment in the workplace is very serious and no one is above policy.” She says all employees are entitled to perform their duties in a harassment-free work environment.”
Wasmeier says this case needs to be investigated so that all involved can identify their issues and a fair, respectful resolution be found. She is no longer providing money to the church until the matter is resolved.
