Foodbanks Canada has said the number of requests for food  coming in nationally has doubled over the last five years.

It’s a busy time of the year for many with the holiday season, comes the stress  of the cost of living. Non perishable food items can be dropped off at the Corner Brook Plaza until December 22nd, the Kinsmen Santa Clause Parade this Saturday will be accepting donations, and other food drives are taking place throughout the city. Damien Power is with the Bay of Islands Foodbank Network. He says Christmas time is when they get the bulk of donations and this stocks the shelves for the year ahead.

Foodbanks Canada has said the number of requests for food  coming in nationally has doubled over the last five years. Power says in October, they provided food assistance to 160 families and last year, there were 222 new people requiring their services. He says the Foodbank Network on Herald Avenue is there to help those feeling too much stress with getting food on the table.
