This includes discharging a firearm from or across a railway, highway, public road or private road, within 1,000 metres of a school, playground or athletic field, or wood cutting operation, or within 300 meters of a dwelling.

The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture issued an advisory for hunters and trappers late last week. Officials are reminding them to always follow firearm and hunting safety practices, and to use care and caution when hunting near communities or remote work sites. It is illegal to discharge or handle a firearm while hunting without exercising reasonable care for the safety of other persons. This includes discharging a firearm from or across a railway, highway, public road or private road, within 1,000 metres of a school, playground or athletic field, or wood cutting operation, or within 300 meters of a dwelling. Hunters are not permitted to Carry, transport or possess a loaded firearm in or on, or discharge a firearm from, any aircraft, motor vehicle, snow machine, or ATV nor can they have more than one firearm, unless it is securely tied and wrapped.  All outdoor users should wear blaze orange or other high-visibility apparel for their own safety.

Information on wildlife regulations, season dates, bag limits and other hunting safety tips is available in the 2025-26 Hunting and Trapping Guide.
