Violence Prevention Coordinator Michelle Maloney says violence prevention is part of a network of ten organizations working year round to address issues related to gender based violence and many different forms of abuse.

February is Violence Prevention Month and it was the topic of Bayfm’s “the Plain Truth” with host Paula Sheppard. Violence Prevention Coordinator Michelle Maloney was the guest. She says violence prevention is part of a network of ten organizations working year round to address issues related to gender based violence and many different forms of abuse. Maloney says promoting awareness is possible through connections with other community organizations and local events. This includes Community Mental Health Initiative, TransNL, the Journey Project, Vine Place, Community Youth Network, the Family Resource Centre, and Willow House.

There’s a violence prevention display at the Corner Brook Library throughout the month of February and people are invited to drop by for a chance to win a gift basket with the draw taking place on February 26th. Meanwhile, Maloney says there’s an opportunity for groups or individuals to apply for a $250 grant to support violence prevention projects. The deadline to apply is February 23rd and successful applicants will be notified by March 4th. For more information contact the Corner Brook Women’s Centre at 639 8522.
