Alcohol should be limited to 2 standard drinks/ day or less than 10 drinks/ week for women, and limited to 3 standard drinks/ day or less than 15 drinks/ week for men.

As many of us work towards a healthier lifestyle, probably the result of a resolution to start the new year, Diabetes Canada has all the right information to get you and keep you on track. It’s all a click away at diabetes.ca and recently, Senior Policy Manager Laura O’Driscoll, was a guest on Bayfm’s the Plain Truth with host Paula Sheppard. According to Diabetes Canada, alcohol should be limited to 2 standard drinks/ day or less than 10 drinks/ week for women, and limited to 3 standard drinks/ day or less than 15 drinks/ week for men.  O’Driscoll says it’s a good idea to mix your own drinks since there pre-mixed drinks don’t have a nutritional label so it’s hard to tell what you are consuming.

There are low sugar alternatives and O’Driscoll says people should not “drink their calories” She says diabetics need to be aware of their blood sugars and if they go too high or too low, they should not be drinking alcohol.
