Deadline extended to have a say about harvesting in the water shed area

    CBPPL has proposed to harvest timber adjacent to Eastern Lake and North of Corner Brook Lake; and to construct 2.75kms of road. It involves mechanical timber harvesting using purpose built forestry equipment and excavators to construct the road.

    An application by Corner Brook Pulp and paper to harvest wood and build a road in the city’s watershed area has changed. The deadline to have a say about this activity in a protected area has been extended until March 29th. On Bayfm with Lenny Benoit, Mayor Jim Parsons says city hall has been receiving a lot of feedback on this and all details can be found on the city’s website. CBPPL has proposed to harvest timber adjacent to Eastern Lake and North of Corner Brook Lake; and to construct 2.75kms of road. It involves mechanical timber harvesting using purpose built forestry equipment and excavators to construct the road. The area of the project includes harvesting within a 330 ha footprint and there will be 2 stream crossings. Parsons says the Watershed Committee will make a recommendation to council.
