Inspector Amy Sharpe says this two-person team has undergone specialized training to analyze collision data and community complaints to target enforcement where it is needed most.

A new dedicated Traffic and Accident Investigation  unit with the Corner Brook RNC kicked into gear on Friday. Inspector Amy Sharpe says this two-person team has undergone specialized training to analyze collision data and community complaints to target enforcement where it is needed most. She says the new unit is a direct response to the concerns of people in west coast communities and there have been numerous speeding complaints from both sides of the Bay of Islands.

The RNC  were on hand near the fire hall in Meadows Friday morning for the launch of the traffic unit during a checkpoint on the main road. Sharpe says there is a need for this unit as there are more calls now and more accidents with a larger geographical area to cover.

This specialized unit will allow the RNC to deploy resources more strategically and free up patrol officers to focus on other calls-for-service, and with the goal of reducing high-risk driving behaviours such as speeding, distracted, and aggressive driving.
