Justice Minister John Hogan says the RCMP will continue to maintain a presence in the region, with the Corner Brook detachment for specialized and federal policing services, as well as the RNC/RCMP Joint Forces Operation West.
Ten new officers have been hired as the result of the expanded jurisdiction of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in Corner Brook. This is the second and final phase will be wrapped up by the end of this month. The new jurisdiction for the Corner Brook RNC now includes Pasadena, Massey Drive and all the communities on the north and south shores of the Bay of Islands. Justice Minister John Hogan says the RCMP will continue to maintain a presence in the region, with the Corner Brook detachment for specialized and federal policing services, as well as the RNC/RCMP Joint Forces Operation West. All residents with ongoing files reported to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police prior to June 30th will remain with the RCMP until concluded, unless otherwise notified. Hogan says the ten new positions were covered by the recent budget and the RNC is also looking for new recruits for their cadet program. RNC Chief Patrick Roche says “The expansion reflects the dedication of the officers who have been assigned and are currently assigned to the Corner Brook region.”
