Students at Corner Brook Regional High were given a chance to learn about agriculture opportunities during a career expo yesterday. Called the “Think AG” Career Expo, it was hosted by Classroom Newfoundland and Labrador (AITC-NL). Coordinator Chelsea Foley says educating youth is important to the growth and development of this thriving industry, with many career options available in the future. Over 200 million people work in the industry across Canada. Lauralee Ledrew owns a small farm in Cormack, called “the Upper Humber Settlement” and is also a teacher. She says students are very interested. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the world will require 60 per cent more food by 2050. Agriculture in the Classroom NL is funded through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP), a five-year (2023-2028), $3.5-billion agreement.
