Corner Brook Mayor happy to hear over 75 percent of recent nurse grads agreed to stay here to work

    Meanwhile, the new Western Memorial Regional Hospital has a new cancer care unit but recruitment efforts are continuing to find oncologists. 

    The Mayor of Corner Brook says while there are challenges with getting some specialists, NL Health Services is doing a good job with recruitment in this region. Jim Parsons says last week, a class of nurses graduated from the Western Regional School of Nursing and 75 percent of them have agreed to stay here. He says that’s why it’s important to have the school in the city. Parsons says it’s tough sometimes to convince people to come here but Corner Brook is an ideal location. Meanwhile, the new Western Memorial Regional Hospital has a new cancer care unit but recruitment efforts are continuing to find oncologists.  Parsons says there are still some gaps to fill and these are not easy problems. He says Corner Brook has some of the best recreational services per capita in Canada.
