Assistant Director of Engineering, Aaron O’Brien says this scale is used which is a huge benefit since a new one could cost in the $150K range.
The city of Corner Brook uses salt and sand for ice control during winter months but has not been able to keep an accurate measurement on how much is being used. At this week’s public meeting, council approved the purchase of a truck scale system at a cost of nearly $45K. The one quote the city received was from Hi-tech Scales Ltd. Assistant Director of Engineering, Aaron O’Brien says it’s important to understand the weight of what is leaving the yard. He says this scale is used which is a huge benefit since a new one could cost in the $150K range. O’Brien says this scale will help them determine if the dosage needs to be changed, which will save money. Budget money not spent this year will be reallocated to cover the cost of the truck scale.
