At the June 9th meeting, Corner Brook city council unanimously voted to not use the method of voting by mail. There were concerns over a potential postal strike. However, at Monday night’s meeting, council chose to keep it as an option. Mayor Jim Parsons says mail in ballots became a reality for the city in 2021 during the Covid pandemic, but only 484 votes were cast that way. Parsons says legislation around vote by mail and the municipal elections act sets a timeline that’s pretty aggressive, only 28 days long. The next municipal election is October 2nd.
