The Canadian Coast Guard is reporting significant additional damage to the hull, including a noticeable change in the condition of the steel plate buckling on the starboard and port sides of the vessel.
The clean up of oily debris around the shoreline of a grounded cargo ship in Lark Harbour is continuing after recent severe weather conditions damaged the MSC Baltic III. That vessel ran aground in Cedar Cove last February and an operation to remove hundreds of containers and fuel has been ongoing ever since. The Canadian Coast Guard is reporting significant additional damage to the hull, including a noticeable change in the condition of the steel plate buckling on the starboard and port sides of the vessel. The stern portion of the vessel is also visibly lower in the water. Some small salvage equipment onboard was also damaged.
Weather permitting, surveys will continue in the area and on nearby beaches. There is an increase in the oiled debris being observed on the shoreline.
