The city’s Director of Recreation Services, Peter Robinson, says getting only one quote is not “uncommon”. He says depending on the work given and the size of our population there are only so many companies here to do the work.
At this week’s public meeting in Corner Brook, council approved a quote to complete work outside of the daycare that will become part of the Marina Redmond Centre. This includes the landscape and installation of the outdoor play area. While city staff tried to get quotes from three different vendors, only one was received from Dirtworx Landscaping for slightly more than $63K. The city’s Director of Recreation Services, Peter Robinson, says getting only one quote is not “uncommon”. He says depending on the work given and the size of our population there are only so many companies here to do the work.
Robinson says this won’t be a “traditional” type play area with more natural things like stumps, logs, and climb areas while the main asphalt feature will be a race track.
Meanwhile, Robinson also gave an update on progress with the daycare, saying they are waiting on funding approval from government. Part of this year’s budget included funding for a Recreation Master Plan to guide the facility, as well as spending on upgrades and the playground.
