The province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health is encouraging people to get a flu shot, in light of a strain of influenza that is hitting parts of Canada. Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says it’s hitting young children and older people the hardest in places like Ontario where at least 3 children have died. Fitzgerald says so far, numbers of flu cases being reported here are in the normal range, with about 20 cases last week. While 20 percent of the population of NL have been vaccinated, Fitzgerald says less than 10 percent of the childhood population have been vaccinated.
