Dr. Shawnda Slipp says there is an age group who might require a booster for measles those born before 1970 and after 1983.

Confirmed cases of Measles in Canada are up by over 4,000, three times more than in 1998 when it was thought the disease was eliminated with vaccine. Corner Brook Dr. Shawnda Slipp says these numbers are alarming. Slipp says Canada is in the top ten for the highest number of measles cases in the world. However, she says there hasn’t been a case in NL since 2017. Slipp says  because measles is so contagious and people are now travelling more, it makes us more susceptible. Although the disease was nearly eradicated in the late nineties, Slipp says there is an age group who might require a booster for measles those born before 1970 and after 1983. She says the vaccine for measles is one of the most successful vaccines ever created.
