Carol Anstey had been on the campaign trail for about 4 years, and last night, in her victory speech, Anstey started with a message for the people of the riding.
The riding of Long Range Mountains covers an area from Channel-Port aux Basques and Burgeo in the south, to St. Anthony and L'Anse aux Meadows in the north. It only came into effect in 2015 when the two ridings of Humber-St. Barbe-Baie Verte, and Random-Burin-St. George’s were combined. Since that time it’s been held by former Liberal MP Gudie Hutchings.
Five candidates from the Liberal, NDP, PC, PPC, and one independent threw their hats in the ring to see who will be part of Canada ‘s next government. Progressive Conservative candidate Carol Anstey had been on the campaign trail for about 4 years, and last night, in her victory speech, Anstey started with a message for the people of the riding.
Anstey has four children and would like to see them have the opportunity to live, work and raise a family in NL. She had a special message for her husband and children. Anstey not only won one, but she made history becoming the first female PC to be elected to government.
Anstey defeated Liberal candidate and former NTV News Reporter Don Bradshaw, who dropped into the Bayfm studio for a chat with Lenny Benoit. Bradshaw says a good thing about living in Canada is we get to experience elections and he felt compelled to run in this election. Last night, the Liberals won enough seats across the country to form a minority government.
