Meanwhile, Byrne says the government of NL has very little confidence in the Canadian Taxpayers Federation because members of the CTF, particularly small businesses, need and want people to come and work.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation nominated Corner Brook MHA and Immigration Minister Gerry Byrne for a 2025 Teddy Waste Award. Atlantic Director Devin Drover says it’s Canada’s annual prize for the most outrageous examples of government waste. Drover says Byrne didn’t win the award,  but earned the nod for spending $171,000 to sponsor Barrow AFC, a fourth tier British soccer team. He says you don’t grow the population by slapping a provincial logo on the jersey of some random team in England’s minor leagues.”

Meanwhile, Byrne says the government of NL has very little confidence in the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. He says this is because members of the CTF, particularly small businesses, need and want people to come and work. Byrne says the federation is trying to stop that. He says government and former members have also lost respect. Byrne says getting a labour force for our province is important and businesses feel they are being let down by the CTF by preventing good recruitment of workers.
