211 staff will provide information on available services and provide screening to ensure children and youth are connected to the proper services, including assessments for complex needs.

On Friday last week, government announced a new way for parents or caregivers, educators and health professionals to get better access to services for children and youth. Health Minister Krista Lynn Howell says the first phase will be in place in the next two months and will mean a better system so people caring for children and youth will be able to contact 211 via phone, text, and web to get the appropriate help. 211 staff will provide information on available services and provide screening to ensure children and youth are connected to the proper services, including assessments for complex needs.

Howell says Phase Two will consist of a central intake to assess each child so they get the right care at the right time, consisting of children and youth being assessed to determine what services are needed and the appropriate care path. NLHealth Services CEO, Dr. Pat Parfrey says children in this province have the highest rates of complex health-care needs in the country. He says this will promote well-being for all.

The program’s second phase where youth assessment is a focus will be called “CorCare” and is due to launch in the spring.
