Coles is a father of two and says healthcare shortages, the rising cost of living, housing gaps and job losses are challenges which are making our children move.
As we continue our daily features this week on Long Range Mountain candidates in the upcoming election, today Bayfm News is focusing on Robbie Coles who is running as an Independent. Coles is the Mayor of Cormack and operates a farm in Reidville. He has spent eight years in municipal politics and decided to run without being tied to party politics as he feels this way, he can better represent people in the riding.
Coles is a father of two and says healthcare shortages, the rising cost of living, housing gaps and job losses are challenges which are making our children move. He says what’s needed is jobs, better infrastructure, sustainable resource management, and real investment in communities to protect the way of life and build a stronger future.
Coles says the Long Range Mountains is a heavily resource based riding with many opportunities. He says this requires resource exploration, development and diversification combined with secure provincial stakes in oil and gas, mining, forestry and agriculture, and tourism which will create well paying long term jobs and generate revenue.
Coles says impending tariffs on Canadian goods will have an impact and the need is there for a federal government that will stand up for people. He says we depend heavily on exports for things like lumber, seafood, and iron ore so the need is for a fair trade deal. More importantly he says, we need a government that will stand up for NL when our industries are at risk.
