Bruce English says the oil will have to be heated so it can be removed. The ships cranes are operational which will help with the removal of containers onboard.

Officials are unsure at this point how long it will take to get the remains and the cargo off a grounded cargo ship near Lark Harbour. The MSC Baltic III lost power on February 15th and ran aground in Cedar Cove. All twenty crew members were safely evacuated by helicopter shortly after. Bruce English is Senior Response officer with Marine Environmental and Hazard Response with the Canadian Coast Guard. He says this operation is now into the end of its third week and the ships owner has provided two options. This includes using a tug and barge, along with portable tanks, and  ground access with upgrades and extensions of the existing road. English says if sea conditions are stable a tug and barge could accommodate the removal of all goods.

English says T & T Salvage is mobilizing the required equipment to support the removal of dangerous goods as well as 1.7 million litres of fuel. He says the oil will have to be heated so it can be removed. The ships cranes are operational which will help with the removal of containers onboard. English says the ship cannot be floated from the area and there is no timeline as to when it will be removed. The drone free boundary is still in place to allow operations to continue in the area. Meanwhile, English says recent barges with containers seen in the Bay of Islands are actually being brought in by the salvage company and are not from the grounded vessel.
