Corner Brook is mourning the loss of a well known teacher and sportsman. George Buckle passed away peacefully at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Wednesday in the arms of his family. Born April 22nd, 1951, George grew up running the streets of Humber Heights blazing the trail for his many brothers and sisters. His youth was spent at Jubilee Field, the soccer pitch, the basketball court and trying his hand at any sport that he could. George was a teacher by trade. His passion for playing sports eventually carried over into coaching, where he spent countless hours. His players, including his kids, will all remember his dedication to building winning teams based on skill and team spirit. George made sure everyone on the court and the bench had a role to play. A funeral mass will take place starting ten o’clock this morning at The Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mount Bernard Avenue, with Father Ed Terry officiating.
