About 70 percent of all fuels onboard a stranded cargo ship in the Bay of Islands has been removed. That’s according to Bruce English of the Canadian Coast Guard. The MSC Baltic III ran aground over 6 months ago in an area known as Cedar Cove in Lark Harbour. English says with the nice weather over the past couple of weeks, about 90 percent of heavy fuel onboard has been removed. He says the priority is getting the fuel safely off the ship but salvage teams have managed to get over two hundred containers off the vessel and into Corner Brook. English says those containers with absorbent material inside might weigh more than what the crane is able to handle and contents will have to be retrieved manually.
