A 61 year old man was taken into police custody on Saturday after a theft at a retail store in Stephenville. Cpl Jesse O’Donaghey says Bay St. George RCMP were called to the Queen Street location around 9 p.m. The man was known to the staff as well as police, and had left the store with several unpaid items. Staff provided a description of the suspect, as well as surveillance video of the incident. Police located the suspect outside a residence a short time later. The man was released from custody to appear in court next month to face charges of theft under $5,000 and failure to comply with conditions of a release order.
