Mall Manager Tammy Joyce says it all started over a cup of coffee with former Mall Manager Vernon Ellsworth and Dr. Noel Murphy, who wanted to do something for the community by giving back and the Gingerbread House started.
It’s the start of the holiday season at the Valley Mall with the opening of the 44th Gingerbread House, which will be tomorrow. It’s been a decades long partnership between the Salvation Army and the Valley Mall to bring smiles to the faces of children on Christmas morning. Mall Manager Tammy Joyce says it all started over a cup of coffee with former Mall Manager Vernon Ellsworth and Dr. Noel Murphy, who wanted to do something for the community by giving back and the Gingerbread House was creaed.
Joyce says the highlight is always the Christmas music with the Salvation Army Band and children's choir, and tomorrow the Grade 5 choir from Eastside Elementary will be there. She says it’a magical place when you see a little boy or girl bring a gift in and they want to see the inside of the little house, so inquisitive and learning to give.
Over the years, tens of thousands of toys have been placed under the tree as a result of the Gingerbread House which will open at 11 a.m tomorrow.
