The President and CEO of the Deer Lake Regional Airport believes a new service to Halifax with Porter Airlines is a testament to the growth and potential of the region. Tammy Priddle says the new daily route to Halifax will start June 4th. She says Westjet will return May 17th with direct flights to Calgary and Toronto Pearson while Flair is also returning with flights to Kitchener, Waterloo and Toronto. Priddle says with Air Canada and Pal Airlines flights, it’s shaping up to be a great season with 30 percent more capacity than in 2019. Sunwing will also return next month. Priddle says passenger numbers in 2023 were about 7 percent lower than pre-pandemic levels, or in 2019. She says this year, they are offering many opportunities for travel or visit with 5 airlines. The Deer Lake airport is the second busiest airport in Newfoundland & Labrador. In 2019, the facility contributed $300 million in output, $100 million in GDP, 1400 jobs and $19 million in taxes.
