The Chief Medical Examiner is waiting on several more toxicology reports to determine an exact number of cocaine related deaths.
Although exact numbers haven’t been confirmed yet, the Chief Medical Examiner says there have been 11 deaths related to cocaine in the past 30 days. The Health Minister spoke to reporters yesterday afternoon about the increase. Osborne says he’s not sure if it’s a trend or a spike but there have been 6,000 naloxone kits distributed throughout the province since 2016 with over 140 sites across the province where these kits can be picked up. Minister Osborne says all police vehicles in the province are equipped with nasal naloxone kits. Osborne says users should never use alone, try to reduce the amount of product taken at once, and have a naloxone kit on hand. The Chief Medical Examiner is waiting on several more toxicology reports to determine an exact number of cocaine related deaths. The picture shows the nasal kits which police have on hand.
