FESTIVAL OF NEW DANCE Nova Dance presents Decoded Dances

An evening of performance featuring solos, duets, and trios from the vibrant repertoire of Nova Dance. Choreographer Nova Bhattacharya’s creations invite audiences on a journey of the imagination through movement, music and colour. Celebrating the transformative power of dance as a ritual of gathering, Decoded Dances features Mel Hart, Neena Jayarajan, Rachana Joshi and Bhattacharya.

Premiering in Corner Brook is Calm Abiding Duet No. 1; this 2006 solo for Bhattacharya created by Montreal’s José Navas is reconfigured as a duet for dancers aged 25 (Joshi) & 55 (Bhattacharya) in a powerful portrayal of the freedom of form. Maskura, a seminal solo, now performed by multiple dancers exemplifies Bhattacharya’s diversiform aesthetic. Broken Lines is an award-winning duet, with two dancers pushing the limits of theatrically and rhythmic complexity. Elemental is a danced ritual of offering to Mother Earth and our environment, it reverberates with poetic elegance and joyous catharsis.
