It’s the season and the RNC is reminding hunters that before heading into the woods, safety must be a priority. Last week, a 41-year-old Massey Drive man was charged with careless storage of a firearm. This after a report of a firearm in the Gull Pond Road area near Pinchgut Lake. An unoccupied off-road vehicle was located on a trail near the Trans-Canada Highway with a firearm that was improperly stored and in plain view. Cst Stephanie Myers says there is a lot of responsibility that comes with owning a firearm. Ensure firearms are unloaded when not in use and during transportation. Do not leave firearms unattended. Avoid high-traffic areas and wear bright, high-visible clothing. Follow all hunting regulations including proper licensing, tags, permits, and zones. Myers says hunters should always carry reliable communication devices and let someone know where you’re going and when you will be back.
