Starting Wednesday, Deer Lake Power will be opening the gates at Main Dam for a controlled release of water from the Grand Lake Reservoir. According to the company, a division of Kruger, the release is required to maintain a safe water elevation in the reservoir.
Water will be released over Main Dam, through Junction Brook and into the Upper Humber River, meaning those water levels will rise and may fluctuate in the following days. Some areas currently accessible by land may become cut off. People are advised to be careful near shorelines and waterways.
