The City of Corner Brook says a deceased whale that washed ashore in Wild Cove will be left to decompose naturally.
The decision was made following consultations with provincial and federal agencies. The city says other removal options were explored but were deemed impractical and posed a risk of environmental damage.
With the amount of public interest in the whale, the city is reminding residents to use caution when approaching the carcass.
Motorists are also asked to obey speed limits along the North Shore Highway and avoid parking in areas that obstruct traffic.
Drone operators are reminded that federal regulations prohibit flying within approximately 900 metres of a marine mammal, whether dead or alive, at an altitude below 1,000 feet without proper authorization.
