Over 360 young children in Corner Brook and surrounding areas get a free, high-quality book every month through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library every month….but for now, the process is on hold. Friday was “Give Like Dolly Day” and on Bayfm, a challenge was issued for help from the public. Renee Sherstobetoff says this book gift giving program for children is now the largest in the world and covers five countries.
In Corner Brook and surrounding areas, 24K books have been delivered to children since 2022. Sherstobetoff says the Dolly Parton Foundation funds a large portion but it costs the local chapter here, a minimum of $17K to a maximum of $32K a year. She says they are on hold now due to funding.
Olaf Janzen is the President of the Rotary Club of Corner Brook. He says without immediate community support, the Corner Brook program will close in about two weeks, so he issued a challenge to the community to back this program with a donation.
It costs about $47 to provide one child with a full year of books. Fellow Rotarian Kathleen Snow offered a symbolic donation suggestion; $9.25 or 9 two 5 in honour of Dolly.
