The debate on an agreement to develop Churchill Falls and Gull Island started with an unexpected turn this morning. Just minutes into it, Lake Melville MHA Keith Russell left the Progressive Conservatives and crossed the floor of the House of Assembly to sit as an Independent. Russell was appointed Minister for Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs last December. Four days have been set aside for the debate, which is being broadcasted live at assembly.nl.ca
