A special sitting of the House of Assembly starts today so MHAs can debate a potential deal on development of Churchill Falls and Gull Island. It will continue for four days followed by a vote. Independent Humber-Bay of Islands MHA Eddie Joyce has a ten minute slot during opening remarks to talk about the proposed resolution. He says he will be talking about Muskrat Falls and how there was a lack of information.
Joyce is pleased with the format and rules for this week’s debate. He says with the 4 days, there is time to question government, ask the experts about their decision, and there are also briefings for MHAs.
Joyce says there will be lots of opportunities to get the information. He says people will say we could do better but when will there be a better final deal? Joyce says the biggest issue is a hatred towards Quebec but the reality is that we have to deal with Quebec right now or let the original deal run until 2041.
