      <description>American Eel was listed as a species of special concern in 2006 and became a threatened species in 2012. It is currently listed under the vulnerable category on the NL Endangered Species Act.&#13;
&#13;
The Environment and Natural Resources Department of Qalipu First Nation have recently begun a new study on America Eel. This study aims to set up permanent sample plots in Muddy Hole, Flat Bay. These samples will help to establish a long-term temporal abundance study to look at population numbers and health, which will inform conservation efforts for the American Eel.&#13;
